The fifth annual UAE Networking Conference will examine how leadership is a vital tool in ensuring people do not come to harm while they are at work.
Ahmed El Hadidi, Chair of the UAE Branch, said that senior managers and leaders have a crucial role to play in delivering a successful occupational safety and health strategy.
He said: “It is through management teams that practices can be set within organisations. Safety and health practitioners, such as our branch members, do a great job but they need to have the support of those at the very top of organisations.
“That will be the focus of our networking conference. It is important that company CEOs and directors see what health and safety has to offer them and their organisation.”
The conference is being held at The Address Dubai Marina between 8.30am and 4.15pm on Thursday 10 December.
It will include a keynote address from the Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Center, as well as a number of presentations including one from the CEO of a major contractor within the Middle East. Meanwhile IOSH’s Executive Director – Commercial, Richard Orton, will speak about the organisation’s Leading safely course.
Delegates will also have the chance to attend two workshops, one focusing on the attributes required to be a leader in the health and safety environment, and the other examining how to leverage safety leadership to create a culture of commitment.
Ahmed added: “Having good safety and health management systems in place is a good way of promoting your business. It is not a cost, it is an investment. It is not a function, it is an attitude reflected in behaviours.
“We hope our conference will further demonstrate the benefits that can be brought to a business by ensuring staff are well looked after and can return home at the end of their working day in the same state of health as they were when they left in the morning.”
